The multiform Buddha’s hand is a special kind of citron.
In Buddhism, the citron is used as a sacrifice, and because Buddha preferred this hand-shaped variety, it received its trivial name. It symbolizes praying hands and stands for happiness, contentment and a long life. Because the seperate fruit segments are surrounded by the peel, the fruit has its unique shape. There is hardly any flesh inside. Candied lemon peel, liqueur and jam are made from the thick peel. Thinly sliced and placed in salt, sugar, pepper and olive oil, cedri carpaccio is made from the citronite lemon in Sicily.
