The dragon fruit is also known as “Pitaya” or “Pitahaya”, another (quite strange) name for the fruit is “Strawberry Pear”. Today it is mainly cultivated in Southeast Asia, but its original home is South Mexico.
The pitaya is best eaten fresh and raw. I like to spoon out the white, sweet fruit pulp from the halved fruit.
The figured fruit I found in a market. It is rare to find such beautiful specimens. When I was standing at the cash desk, the cashier and the lady behind me were agreed immediately that this fruit due to its beauty is too good to eat. I said that I will photograph it before; we laughed. As you can see, I really photographed this fruit. However, it was also to good for not eating.
