The edible fruits of Sinofranchetia are very similar to grapes, but less sweet and with a little leathery skin. They mature from September and are normally in a threesome; this is one of the characteristics of the lardizabala family.
Sinofranchetia chinensis is known outside China only under its Latin name. The genus has only one species, which is why the artepitheton is frequently used as the vernacular name for this species. This plant is already a little rarity, but in the Frankfurt Botanical Garden one of these up to 15 meters long liana grows between trees.
