The “berries” of Schinus molle, which are actually stone fruits and still pretty pink or red in colour after drying, can often be found in pepper mixtures where they have a decorative rather than a culinary value. Although they also have a sweet, peppery aroma, which however can not stick out from the peppercorns.

Even fresh fruits hide little flesh under the brittle skin. In addition to pepper mixtures, pink pepper berries are sometimes found in chocolate, which gives them a slight pungency and a peppery aroma. They are also used in Chicha.
