The capsule fruits, which open at maturity and fall easily from the twig, contain a brown and black seed partially enclosed by a white pulp.
Dried seeds are ground into a brown paste, mixed with cassava flour to form “Pasta Guarana” and sweetened as a stimulating drink, similar to coffee or cacao. This has a long tradition in the origin of guaraná, Brazil. For some time now, soft drinks such as lemonade, chocolate, tea, chewing gum, sweets and, of course, energy drinks have been blended with guaraná extract. Due to the high caffeine content of 9.1 to 76.0 mg per 1 g of guarana seed, it has a stimulating effect and reduces the feeling of hunger and thirst.
