St Paul’s Church (German: Paulskirche)

Opening: Tuesday, 26 November, 1 p.m. by Frankfurt City Councillor Christian Setzepfandt
Opening hours daily 12 to 20 hrs.

The 102nd group exhibition of BBK artists in the basement vault of St Paul’s Church!
I will be there all day on 26 November and 5th December (also on other days at different times, you are welcome to make an appointment).

In the 102nd year of the Artists’ Christmas Market in the Römerhallen and St Paul’s Church, the BBK Frankfurt will once again be presenting works by a total of 100 artists from the Rhine-Main region until shortly before Christmas. As art enthusiasts have appreciated for many years, the BBK is once again offering its popular annual exhibition in St Paul’s Church and the popular art market in the Römer with free admission at this two-part art event.
At the 102nd Frankfurt Artists’ Christmas Market, the public can once again expect to see a wide range of oil and acrylic paintings, graphics, etchings, photography, sculptures, objects, jewellery and handicrafts. The works can be purchased directly both in St Paul’s Church and in the Römerhallen. The double exhibition, which runs until 22 December, has an international character, as does the organiser BBK Frankfurt with its membership structure.

Exhibition ‘Hortus’ in the Nebbienschen Gartenhaus of the Frankfurter Künstlerclub

Opening hours Wednesday to Sunday from 12 to 6pm
In the park of the Bockenheimer Anlage near the Hilton Hotel between Alte Oper and Eschenheimer Turm, Frankfurt am Main

Vernissage: Thursday, 03 October 2024, 19:00 hrs

The Nebbiensche Gartenhaus, located near the Alte Oper and Hilton Hotel in the park

‘At the time when the Nebbiensche Gartenhaus was built, gardens were laid out on the old Frankfurt city fortifications (today ‘Bockenheimer Anlage’). This garden house is the only one of the 250 that still exists today and is a reminder of this garden culture. What might have been planted here back then? Fruit and vegetables, flowers or medicinal plants? Were there even tropical fruits such as lemons or pineapples in one or other of the garden pavilions?

With her exhibition ‘Hortus’, photographer Jennifer Markwirth, who specialises in edible plants, wants to artistically remind the Nebbiensche Gartenhaus of its former purpose. Exotic and familiar fruit and vegetables that may have been grown in its immediate vicinity in the past are moving into its rooms. However, the ones that can be seen here in pictures grew in other Frankfurt gardens: the Palmengarten, the two botanical gardens and the artist’s allotment garden.’

Cornucopia – the horn of plenty. Filled with flowers and fruits, it stands for fertility, generosity, wealth and abundance. It is a symbol for the harvest season and thus for autumn. The photo artist Jennifer Markwirth has made a colourful selection for this exhibition that accompanies us into the colourful autumn. In addition to typical autumn fruits such as quince and apple, there are also flowers and exotic edible plants to be seen, and in many motifs, more or less well-hidden little animals can be discovered. The exhibited pictures are available for purchase as editions in small numbers or as unique pieces.
